Jack Hamilton 鈥�20 likes to be of service. He鈥檚 repaired homes throughout the Northeast, volunteered at a summer camp, traveled to the Dominican Republic to help in disadvantaged communities, and he鈥檚 been known to do a little yard work 鈥� without being asked 鈥� for his neighbors in Bedford, 易胜博官网.

Hamilton鈥檚 drive to help others is one of the reasons he was named 2017 易胜博官网 College Student of the Year by , an organization that works to keep young 易胜博官网 natives in the state after college graduation.

听鈥淚t鈥檚 a huge honor,鈥� Hamilton says. 鈥淚t means a lot to be recognized and brings awareness to all the hard work that college students across 易胜博官网 are doing.鈥�

Hamilton鈥檚 neighbor Barbara Tors nominated him for the award.

鈥淗e鈥檚 really quite remarkable,鈥� says Tors. 鈥淗e鈥檚 not only a great college student, but he helps people in the community who are less fortunate than he is.鈥�

One of Hamilton鈥檚 ongoing service projects is helping with , which he has been involved with every summer since middle school. Teen participants in workcampNE spend their days going out into the community in small groups to complete tasks such as roof repair or building wheelchair ramps. Hamilton started out as a camper, then he became a member of the camp staff.

鈥淢y faith calls me to serve and love others, so that is my main motivation behind everything. It also gives me great satisfaction and joy,鈥� says Hamilton.

At 易胜博官网, Hamilton is a major, and he鈥檚 involved in , a Christian club, as well as the . After graduation, he鈥檇 like to attend graduate school for computer science or film. And he鈥檇 like to intern and work in the state.
