Donors Lead 易胜博官网 to Another Record-Setting (603) Challenge

The 易胜博官网 community rallied together to once again make this year鈥檚 (603) Challenge a record-setting success, with more than 11,800 donors combining to raise more than $3.6 million for the university 鈥 the most money ever raised during a single challenge. It was the 11th consecutive year that the challenge has exceeded the previous year鈥檚 results.

Mapping the Deep

In December 2023, thanks to 易胜博官网, the United States grew by one million square kilometers.听The U.S. gained that seabed territory beyond 200 nautical miles from our coasts through a geopolitical process called the Extended Continental Shelf. To satisfy its requirements, the federal government turned to a team of the nation鈥檚 top ocean mappers: those at 易胜博官网.听

Could changing the narrative help 易胜博官网 retain more young people? While it鈥檚 not the only factor, research from 易胜博官网 suggests that cultural narratives significantly influence how rural youth make post-high school decisions. Understanding these narratives could help the state develop strategies to keep more young people in their communities.

A Career Written in the Stars

Many moons before Harlan Spence became the director for the 易胜博官网 Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space (EOS), his father, an amateur astronomer, instilled in Spence a curiosity and excitement about the universe. This was the era of the Space Race between the U.S.听and the Soviet Union, and space exploration was on everyone鈥檚 minds, televisions and airwaves; it was especially captivating for Spence during his youth.听

Pollution Solution

For a time, 易胜博官网 researchers Paula Mouser and Adam Wymore were connected only by the invisible chemicals they were studying.听

That is, Mouser, a professor of civil and environmental engineering, and Wymore, associate professor of natural resources and the environment, had both independently worked on research tackling the impact of pollution. Mouser鈥檚 recent work focused specifically on PFAS 鈥 toxic substances found in many industrial and consumer products known as 鈥渇orever chemicals鈥 for their persistence in the environment.听
