The Place To Be
What makes Ò×ʤ²©¹Ù꿉۪s quintessential college town location even better? How close it is to the sea, city and mountains.
The rankings, based on data gathered from the U.S. Department of Education, and PayScale.com, considered factors including graduation rates, quality of education, tuition charges, family borrowing and alumni earnings.
"Ò×ʤ²©¹ÙÍø students have it all — renowned and distinguished faculty committed to undergraduate teaching and undergraduate research, a wide range of majors in courses averaging 25 students per class, Division I athletics and the campus spirit those sports bring to the town, one of the safest campuses in America and an hour train ride to metropolitan Boston," notes Victoria Dutcher, vice president of enrollment management. "With excellent job-placement rates and above-average starting salaries and professional certification pass rates, more than 149,000ÌýÒ×ʤ²©¹ÙÍø alumni prove that, yes, we are a best college for your money.â€
Money lauds Ò×ʤ²©¹Ù꿉۪s place on the national stage in a range of disciplines and cites its high percentage of students who graduate within six years — 15 percent higher than similar schools. The report also spotlights Ò×ʤ²©¹Ù꿉۪s Durham location as a classic college town that’s close to Ò×ʤ²©¹Ù꿉۪s beaches, Boston and the White Mountains: “Students tend to have a strong connection to the environment: The university is a leader in campus sustainability, and the Ò×ʤ²©¹ÙÍø Outing Club, the oldest student group on campus, puts on weekend hiking trips.â€
The 727 schools considered on this year’s Best Colleges for Your Money list had to have at least 500 students, not be in financial distress and have a graduation rate at or above the median for their counterparts.
