Katie Haslett听鈥�18, a civil engineering student in the , was recently selected as a recipient of the Dr. David R. Jones IV scholarship from the Association of Modified Asphalt Producers ().

The scholarship includes a $2,000 stipend and is awarded to two undergraduate and two graduate students annually.听

Eshan Dave, assistant professor of , says AMAP scholarships are prestigious accolades for students who have made advances in the field of asphalt materials and pavements. Dave says the work Haslett conducted during her Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship as well as her internship at Pike Industries filled knowledge gaps in the field, making her an ideal candidate for the scholarship.

鈥淜atie is one of the most hardworking students and has an excellent balance of motivation, intellectual curiosity and a very good vision to balance scientific advancement with engineering,鈥� says Dave.

听鈥淭hey are constantly challenging me to reach beyond my own expectations.鈥�

Haslett was also recognized as one of听10 New Faces of Civil Engineering by the American Society of Civil Engineering in 2017. She is pursuing her master's in civil engineering at 易胜博官网 through the accelerated master's program and under the supervision of Dave and Jo Daniel, professor of civil engineering.

鈥淚 owe a lot of credit to the faculty in civil and environmental engineering for their continued support and guidance at 易胜博官网,鈥� says Haslett, who is also captain of the women鈥檚 ice hockey team. 鈥淭hey are constantly challenging me to reach beyond my own expectations.鈥�

Haslett is actively involved on campus as a member of the Asphalt Materials Research Group, the听易胜博官网 Honors Program, the Student-Athlete Advising Committee, the听American Society of Civil Engineering and as听a student leader with Athletes Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. She also serves as听vice president of the 易胜博官网 chapter of Tau Beta Pi.
