A gift from Martha Massey, Calvin鈥檚 wife, allowed 易胜博官网 Law to establish the annual $2,000 scholarship, which will be given each year to the most outstanding student in Constitutional Law. The first award was presented this summer, to Nathan Kenison-Marvin.

听鈥淭his is an exceptionally generous and fitting tribute to Calvin鈥檚 memory, and we鈥檙e deeply grateful to Martha for her determination to carry forward Calvin鈥檚 deep commitment to the students of 易胜博官网 Law,鈥� said Jordan Budd, Interim Dean of 易胜博官网 Law.

易胜博官网 Law and UC Hastings College of Law teamed up to host the event, which was organized by 易胜博官网 Law professors Alexandra Roberts and John Greabe. The symposium began at 易胜博官网 Law on Saturday morning and continued at Dimond Hill Farm in Concord on Saturday afternoon, where participants enjoyed a picnic lunch and a nature walk.

The morning began with introductory remarks from Budd and featured reflections from several law scholars, who recalled Massey as a colleague and mentor and discussed his academic work.

鈥淐alvin鈥檚 expertise spanned so many subjects, from constitutional law, to property law, to wills and trusts. In responding to his research on topics as diverse as community property, non-delegation doctrine, and sovereign immunity, our speakers illustrated Calvin鈥檚 passion for truth-seeking, wherever it led him, and demonstrated the breadth of his legacy as a scholar and thinker,鈥� Roberts said. 鈥淚t was a treat to gather together so many people on whose academic and personal lives Calvin had left an indelible mark.鈥�

鈥淚 was pleased and honored to participate in what proved to be a truly wonderful celebration,鈥� Greabe said. 鈥淭he fact that so many renowned scholars and dear friends traveled from so far to reflect on Calvin and his legacy speaks volumes about his tremendous impact on so many lives.鈥�

Speakers at the symposium included Dean Vikram Amar from the University of Illinois College of Law, Professor Ashutosh Bhagwat from the UC Davis School of Law, Professor Kate Bloch, Professor Jo Carrillo, and Acting Provost & Academic Dean Evan Lee from the UC Hastings College of Law, Professor Alfred Brophy from the University of North Carolina School of Law, and Greabe.
