Brad Kinsey, chair of the mechanical engineering department, has been elected as a Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Fellow for his demonstrated impact on the social, technological and educational aspects of the manufacturing profession.

Kinsey is one of 10 new SME fellows nationwide. Fellows are experienced professionals from industry, research and academia who are at the forefront of manufacturing and have made significant contributions to the field.

鈥淚 am humbled by this honor,鈥 says Kinsey.听鈥淪ME fellows include several of my colleagues that I respect tremendously for their accomplishments and dedication toward advancing manufacturing in the U.S.鈥

In addition to his chair and teaching responsibilities, Kinsey serves as director of the 听(CAMMI) and interim director of the (JOAMC), which is expected to boost the number of highly skilled professionals in 易胜博官网鈥檚 advanced manufacturing sector.

Kinsey says advanced manufacturing is a focus of multiple departments at 易胜博官网.

鈥淚 am just one of the faculty members and staff conducting research and educating our students in advanced manufacturing principles,鈥 says Kinsey. 鈥淚 look forward to working with many others on initiatives such as the Olson Center.鈥

The SME fellowship is well deserved, says Chuck Zercher, interim dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

Kinsey began his career at 易胜博官网 in 2001 as assistant professor in mechanical engineering. He was promoted to professor in 2012 and has served as department chair since August 2013. He has co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and secured more than $3 million (his share) in grant funding. In addition, Kinsey has mentored more than two dozen graduate students and served on numerous thesis committees.

Other significant honors for Kinsey include a National Science Foundation CAREER Award; the 易胜博官网 Outstanding Assistant Professor听Award; the Ralph R. Teetor Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers, and a fellowship with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In 2013, he served as the Department of Energy representative to the Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office, which coordinates the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation.

Kinsey will accept the honor at the SME North American Manufacturing Research Conference in June 2017.
