Samantha Granville, an English major, was selected for the Create Your Own Story program for 2015-16. This program recognizes current students who have made their Ò×ʤ²©¹ÙÍø stories successful. This initiative exists not only to highlight dedicated students but also to inspire others to take advantage of all Ò×ʤ²©¹ÙÍø has to offer. Faculty, staff, and community members nominate exceptional students, ten of whom are recognized each year.

When Granville first started at Ò×ʤ²©¹ÙÍø with no money and no plan, she was terrified of being on her own. "I had always taken care of myself, but not like this," she shared. A significant boost of encouragement appeared in the form of a TRIO-Student Support Services, which provides direction and mentoring for low-income and first-generation colleges students.

A significant influence on Granville's writing and entire academic career has been English lecturer Clark Knowles, who encouraged Granville to find her voice. His guidance has been invaluable as Granville looks ahead to professional paths in publishing, editing and writing.
