Excellence in Teaching, 2017

Benjamin Chandran

Benjamin Chandran is a professor in the physics department and a true Renaissance educator. With degrees in physics and history from Yale and a doctorate from Princeton, his credentials could take him anywhere. We are glad they brought him to 易胜博官网 in 2005 to study the stars.

An inspiration to students who share his passion for research, Chandran has worked on several experiments for NASA missions and is an active researcher in 易胜博官网鈥檚 Space Science Center.

Chandran has an ability to teach the difficult and abstract concepts of modern physics, such as special relativity and quantum mechanics, in an interesting and coherent manner. He clearly cares about the success of his students who describe him as 鈥渆ngaged in class,鈥 鈥渧ery well prepared,鈥 鈥渧ery knowledgeable鈥 and perhaps most importantly, 鈥済enerous with his time.鈥

One student recently said, 鈥淧rofessor Chandran teaches an engaging and balanced course that prepares students for upper level physics 鈥 that makes it manageable.鈥 His colleagues are impressed by stellar teaching evaluations, which serve as a standard for all our faculty.

The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is fortunate to count Benjamin Chandran as one of our faculty. In the words of another student 鈥 not a physics major 鈥 鈥淗e was easily my best professor at 易胜博官网.鈥
